Shutdown

I've been interning in a certain Senator's office* in Washington D.C. for a week now. My second Monday, the other interns and I were called into a meeting with the chief of staff, who informed us we were furloughed until Congress approves funding for the government. As interns, we're deemed "unessential" to the Senator's staff, so we're taking an unpaid vacation until Congress figures out how to compromise. Not bad for my second week, huh?
I've actually been really lucky throughout this whole shutdown phenomenon. A lot of businesses are giving free food away to furloughed government employees with a flash of their government i.d. It's good stuff.
Tuesday, my friend Jordan and I went to Sprinkles Cupcakes to get our free cupcake. They were heavenly.

The one on the left is strawberry and the one on the right is peanut butter chip. I die.
Afterwards, we went to the waterfront, which was lovely. We tried to see if we could get a boat to go out on the river, but all the places that rent boats are run by the federal government, and thus, closed. So we just walked around instead.

It was lovely. Then we walked to Georgetown University's campus.
Imagine going to school here. It's like Hogwarts in real life. ^^

This is where they have concerts and speakers come. What.

This is a view of Georgetown from the bridge to Arlington.
This area is lovely. Also it's 84°F here, and I've heard it's already snowing in Logan. Haha. Ha.

*The dear Senator I work for will remain unnamed, in accordance with the two hour long ethics video I watched for training. Two. Hours.
